| This new product is a deviation from our traditional offerings of vertical sulphur and acid pumps, valves, and gear pumps. It is called the Allgire Universal Power Drive, it is a "rudderless" boat drive used on small tugboats, workboats, ferry's and party boats. Any vessel, which requires superior maneuverability and handling, can benefit from the installation of an Allgire drive.
Benefits
Captain Ray K. Allgire and the Louis J. Doerr Motorworks Company originally developed the drive in the 1940's and 50's. It was conceived as a solution to the many difficulties experienced by harbour tugboat captains. Many of the U.S.A.'s inland waterways require workboats to operate in tight quarters.
High Maneuverability.
- The Allgire drive allows rotation of the vessels' propeller in a full 360 degrees, for power in any direction. 100% power can be applied at any angle.
No Need for Rudders, reverse gear and Long propeller shafts.
Long Operating Experience.
- The Louis J. Doerr Motorworks Company produced over 550 units during its history. Most units were installed in small workboats in the Midwest along the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. The units have also been used on several ferryboats and military workboats on the East and West coasts of the U.S.A. Today there are a number of the original units still in use.
Provides high reliability in harsh working environment.
Inventory Parts Available
- Lewis has a ready inventory of parts for immediate shipment and will offer the same guarantee as with our other products, to have replacement parts to any airport within 72 hours of the order. In addition, Lewis will service and repair units brought into our shop for local operators.
Quick Exchange programme.
- We have also instituted a quick exchange program, wherein, Lewis will maintain two units in inventory for exchange with an existing unit in need of repair. Any owner of an Allgire unit may bring in his unit for exchange and leave with a rebuilt unit the same day. This program will minimise downtime and ensure the boats are back in operation.
Lewis is proud to service and manufacture these units and looks forward to a long and successful future. |
